2014.November: Synergies

ABOUT SYNERGIES
Synergy: The interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a
combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
Karma Creative and North York Arts are engaged in a synergetic partnership contributing to the development of
the arts throughout North York, and beyond. The principle of synergy applies to the work of individuals and
collectives. For the artist, the effect “greater than the sum of the parts” comes from interaction of artist with
environment, personal expression and materials. It comes, too, from interactions with other artists.
Synergies represents the work of 16 artists based in and around Karma Creative art studio. We range from young
to old, emerging to established, Canadians by birth and newcomers. Each artist explores her own style and
media, enriched by rich exchanges with other members of the group and by the group’s collective professional
experience in archaeology, architecture, psychology, culture studies, teaching, mindfulness, and yoga. Media
include encaustic, oil and acrylic painting, mixed media, and sculpture. The studio setting offers mutual support
for professional artists and developmental support for novice and emerging artists.
